Q. What do the hackers want?
A. Three main things:
- your money
- data they can sell (credit card and identities)
- your computer resources (disc space to host data on, use your system to attack other systems, host spam engines, etc.)
Q. We're a small business, why would a hacker attack us instead of a bigger company?
A. Mostly because it's easier - you don't have the security that larger enterprises do.
- In many cases, they are targeting small businesses more for their computer resources than for data they can sell.
Q. We have tape-based backup – is that good enough?
A. Not for most business. Most tape systems are faulting much like a VHS tape. Every time you record over your tape the quality degrades. Also the recovery from tape takes a very long time, 3 days at best in most cases.
Q. How secure is off-site data storage?
A. In most cases the data is transmitted over a secure Internet tunnel to the destination and most facilities take extreme security measures to protect those data warehouse servers.
Q. How do I get my employees to understand the importance of data security?
A. They must understand the 7 mindsets (Have us come see them or come to a security seminar)
